Atlético Madrid Park pays tribute to Vicente Calderón
The Atlético Madrid Park is now a reality in the Spanish capital. In the same place where the legendary Vicente Calderón stadium once stood, the new park was inaugurated by Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo and CEO Miguel Ángel Gil.
The inauguration was marked by emotion, especially when a urn with memories of the stadium was buried under a plaque that recalled the 51 years of experiences at Vicente Calderón.
Among the memories were a seat, a stone, a piece of grass, posters from the first and last games played at the stadium, a black and white photo of the first goal scored at the Calderón, a 50th anniversary shirt of the mythical venue and an Atlético Madrid flag.
Enrique Cerezo remembered all the feelings, experiences and legends that the emblematic home of the rojiblancos evoked, highlighting its magic and its importance in the history of the club. Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida emphasized the importance of this action to complete the Madrid Río project, as well as to pay tribute to a red and white marked area forever.
