Grimaldo in Atlético's sights: A stellar reinforcement for the left-back?
Atlético de Madrid, always ambitious, is exploring options to strengthen its left-back position for the upcoming season. Alejandro Grimaldo, currently at Bayer Leverkusen, is emerging as an attractive option for the Rojiblanco club.
His successful stint at Benfica and his outstanding performance in Xabi Alonso’s German team, with 99 games played, 16 goals and 33 assists, endorse him as a high-level player. Although the club has not confirmed interest, the player’s conditions are positively valued.
Grimaldo, an international with Spain, has expressed his desire to play in a big club in his country, including Atlético in his list of preferences along with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The arrival of Grimaldo could solve the lack of regularity shown on the left flank where Javi Galán, Reinildo and Riquelme have not managed to consolidate. His quality in set pieces and his ability to generate offensive play would be a great contribution to Cholo’s team.
However, his signing will not be easy, as Leverkusen would not let him leave for less than 30 million euros. The Colchonero fans dream of seeing Grimaldo wearing the red and white shirt, contributing his talent and experience to continue reaping successes.
