Baena: Destination Metropolitano
Atlético de Madrid is increasingly close to finalizing the signing of Baena, the talented midfielder from Villarreal. An agreement seems imminent, although there is still debate as to whether his arrival will take place before or after the World Cup.
At the Rojiblanco club, the sports management, led by Carlos Bucero, is working calmly, seeking the best conditions in the negotiation. Baena would arrive at the Metropolitano as one of the great reinforcements for Cholo Simeone’s future project.
He stands out for his assist capabilities and his powerful shot, qualities highly valued by the Argentine coach, as well as his strong character. Although his release clause amounts to 55 million euros, Atlético does not intend to pay that amount, so they are negotiating with Villarreal.
The relationship between the two clubs has improved significantly in recent times, as demonstrated by the signing of Sorloth. The player’s willingness to join Atlético, rejecting offers from Arabia and the Premier League, is key.
One option to lower the transfer price would be to include Riquelme in the operation, a player that Villarreal is interested in. However, the final decision will depend on Riquelme himself, who has other offers.
At the Metropolitano, the initial idea is to face the World Cup with the current squad. Therefore, although Baena’s signing seems to be on track, his arrival could be postponed until after the tournament.
