The last matchday of the group stage of the Champions League promises to be exciting, with 18 matches to be played simultaneously on Wednesday, January 29. Atlético de Madrid depends on itself to avoid the playoffs: if it beats Salzburg, it will be mathematically among the top eight.
According to the Opta supercomputer, the chances of the mattress team finishing among the top eight are 81'5%. Real Madrid, on the other hand, will need several external results to be favorable to reach the Top-8 and, consequently, it is most likely that they will have to play this preliminary round.
The teams that overcome the playoffs will advance to the round of 16, where they will already be waiting for the top eight, including Barcelona. Atlético also has chances to reach that privileged position, but to do so it will have to win in Salzburg.
