Oblak, a Red and White Legend: A bittersweet record
Jan Oblak, our Jan, continues to make history with Atlético de Madrid. In the last match, the Slovenian goalkeeper reached 484 official matches with the Red and White, surpassing Tomás Reñones and establishing himself as the third player with the most appearances in the club’s history.
An impressive achievement that places him ever closer to legends like Adelardo Rodríguez and Koke Resurrección. But Oblak’s ambition does not stop there.
The Colchonero goalkeeper is on track to achieve something unprecedented in Spanish football: winning his sixth Zamora Trophy! His stellar performances this season make him the undisputed favorite to take this prestigious award.
Throughout his eleven seasons defending Atlético’s goal, Oblak has accumulated an enviable record, winning titles in La Liga, the Europa League, and the Spanish Super Cup, in addition to five Zamora trophies and the record for the best ratio of goals conceded in a season of LaLiga.
Despite the important personal achievement, Oblak could not celebrate fully, as the team did not achieve victory. His commitment and professionalism were evident when he declared: “Thank you, but when you don’t win, it doesn’t matter.” Great, Jan! Always thinking about the team!
