Atleti: Supporters' Campaign Against UEFA
Atlético de Madrid fans are mobilizing once again to defend the club. The International Union of Atlético Supporters’ Clubs has launched a fundraising campaign to address the so-called ‘UEFAgate,’ an incident that occurred in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg match against Real Madrid at the Metropolitano.
The origin of the controversy lies in the disallowed goal by Julián Álvarez during the penalty shootout, an arbitration decision they consider unfair and detrimental to the team.
The refereeing, led by Szymon Marciniak and Tomasz Kwiatkowski in the VAR, argued that the Argentine player had touched the ball twice, something that the supporters’ clubs believe is not proven.
Faced with this situation, the Union of Supporters’ Clubs has launched a ‘crowdfunding’ initiative through the sale of t-shirts with the slogan “Join the red and white crusade. Against injustice, against #UEFAGate. For Atleti”.
The profits obtained will be fully allocated to cover the legal expenses derived from the actions that will be carried out against UEFA. The campaign seeks not only financial support, but also the unity of the fans in defense of the values and dignity of Atlético de Madrid. The initiative has been well received among the red and white followers, who have shown their unconditional support for the team and the fight against what they consider a clear arbitration injustice.
