Atletico Madrid secures place in Champions League round of 16
Atletico Madrid secured an important 6-0 victory over Sparta Prague at the Generali Arena, recovering their positive goal difference. With this victory, Diego Simeone’s team has nine points and is in 15th place in the standings, outside of direct qualification for the round of 16 but with a place secured in the round of 16.
At the moment, Atletico would face Manchester City or PSV in this round, with the home advantage. There are still three games left in this phase of the Champions League, so the positions will vary until January, when this first stage of the new format of the continental competition will be completed.
