Simeone and the parade of coaches at Valencia
Since his arrival at Atlético de Madrid in December 2011, Diego Pablo Simeone has witnessed a true procession of coaches on the Valencia bench. This Saturday, Carlos Corberán will become the fifteenth ché coach to greet El Cholo.
Emery was the first on this long list, followed by names such as Pellegrino, Valverde, Djukic, Pizzi, Nuno, Neville, Voro, Marcelino, Celades, Javi Gracia, Bordalás, Gattuso and Baraja.
Some, like Prandelli, Nico Estévez and Ayestarán, did not coincide with the Argentinian due to their brief time at the Valencian club. Historically, Simeone has dominated Valencia. Of 30 matches, El Cholo has won 18, drawn 9 and lost only 3.
Baraja, Nuno and Pellegrino are the only ones who have managed to beat Simeone’s Atlético. Baraja and Marcelino are the coaches who have faced Simeone the most times, with four matches each. Nuno, Pizzi and Emery did it on three occasions. Now, Corberán, under contract until 2027, will seek to join that select group of coaches who have defeated the Argentinian coach, and hopes to have the opportunity to face him many more times.
