Atletico Madrid aims to end 18-year winless streak at Barcelona's home
Atletico Madrid visits Montjuïc with the aim of ending a streak of more than 18 years without being able to impose themselves in Barcelona’s home. Neither in Liga, Champions, Copa del Rey or Supercopa de España have they been able to overcome one of the great challenges that still lies ahead for Simeone.
The red-and-white team achieved the draw that served to be champions in 2014 and also obtained two results that were ultimately useful to advance to the next round of Champions in 2014 and 2016 (1-1 and 2-1), winning in the return match at the Vicente Calderón by 1-0 and 2-0.
In total, Atletico has played 17 matches in Barcelona’s home: 12 in Liga, with eight defeats and four draws, two in Copa with one defeat and one draw, two in Champions with one defeat (2-1) and one draw (1-1) and one in Supercopa de España closed by 0-0, although Barcelona took the title for the 1-1 in the first leg.
To remember the last Atletico victory, we must go back to February 5, 2006. At that time, Atletico was living a completely different moment than the current one, as a mid-table team and already established in Primera División (it was their fourth season after promotion), but with few aspirations and the challenge of finishing in UEFA positions, something that they would not achieve until the following season (when they finished seventh).
