The legacy of Suárez, Falcao and Leivinha at Atlético de Madrid
The Social Commission of Atlético de Madrid will once again propose the removal of Thibaut Courtois’ plaque from the Paseo de los Jugadores Centenarios at its November meeting.
The rojiblanco fans have demanded the removal of this recognition for the Belgian goalkeeper, who played 154 games for the Madrid team between 2011 and 2014. Meanwhile, players like Luis Suárez, Falcao and Leivinha, who have been legends of the club but have not reached 100 games, do not have their plaque in the stadium.
Luis Suárez played 83 games for Atlético and scored 34 goals, being the center forward of the team that won the last league title in the 2020-21 season. Falcao, for his part, was in the club for two seasons and scored 70 goals in 91 games, winning a Copa del Rey, a Europa League and a European Super Cup. Leivinha, finally, played 93 games and scored 43 goals in four seasons at Atlético, winning a Liga and a Copa.
