José María Giménez, central defender for Atlético de Madrid, is already in Uruguay preparing for the upcoming double round of South American World Cup qualifiers. In statements to the press, the player expressed optimism and highlighted the importance of these matches to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
‘It will be a nice opportunity,’ said Giménez, emphasizing his good physical condition after a season without injuries, a primary goal for him.
The Uruguayan explained that, instead of resting, he preferred to quickly join training with the national team, prioritizing his physical condition, especially with an eye on the Club World Cup that he will play with Atlético de Madrid in the United States.
‘It’s good for me to keep training,’ he asserted. Giménez emphasized that Uruguay will approach each match with the utmost seriousness, as if it were a final. He also celebrated the return of Lucas Torreira to the national team, highlighting his effort to come back.
In light of the absences of key players like Rodrigo Bentancur and Darwin Núñez, Giménez is confident that all those called up are ready to give their best for La Celeste.
