Atleti vs. UEFA: The battle for truth continues
The controversial elimination of Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League against Real Madrid continues to generate controversy.
Following the statements of the IFAB, which point to an arbitration error in the annulment of Julián Álvarez’s goal, several rojiblancos groups, including the International Union of Fan Clubs, Los 50, the Senate and Señales de Humo, are redoubling their efforts to sue UEFA.
Eduardo Fernández, leader of this initiative, expresses a mixture of “legitimate indignation” and “satisfaction” at seeing the injustice suffered confirmed. He stresses that the IFAB’s clarification reinforces their arguments, highlighting the poor application of the rule by the referees.
However, the objective goes beyond pointing out a specific error, seeking to demonstrate possible “bad faith” on the part of UEFA by editing the explanatory video of the arbitration decision. Before formalizing the lawsuit, the groups will meet with the club to hear their position.
Fernández insists that his intention is to move forward, demanding that UEFA deliver the original video and audio. If there is no response, they will resort to legal channels. The main claim is for moral redress, although they do not rule out possible compensation if it is proven that Atlético was intentionally harmed.
If UEFA’s bad faith is proven, the door is opened to questioning the legitimacy of other previous results, fueling suspicions of possible favoritism. The Atleti fans, more united than ever, are calling for justice and transparency in European football.
