Mouriño: A Stellar Return to Atlético?
Atlético de Madrid is eyeing the return of Santiago Mouriño after his outstanding season at Deportivo Alavés. The young Uruguayan, who previously belonged to the Colchoneros, made a positive impression in the match against Atlético at Mendizorroza, demonstrating his quality with high passing accuracy, effective clearances, and a notable presence on the field.
Mouriño has established himself as an undisputed starter at Alavés, playing a total of 22 LaLiga matches under the technical direction of Coudet. His performance has not gone unnoticed at the Metropolitano, where the Rojiblanca management is seriously considering exercising the repurchase option in the summer.
This would involve a disbursement of three million euros, one more than what Atlético received for his initial transfer. The intention is for Mouriño to join the preseason under the command of Diego Simeone, who has also expressed his satisfaction with the defender’s progress.
Depending on market movements, it will be decided whether Mouriño stays in the squad or whether a transfer for a higher sum is evaluated, without ruling out the possibility of including him in a strategic operation. Atlético is confident in Mouriño’s potential to strengthen their defense and bring solidity to the team.
