Atlético Fan Groups Respond to Cerezo Over UEFA Controversy
The International Union of Atlético Fan Groups, along with other Rojiblancos collectives, has issued a statement in response to recent statements by President Enrique Cerezo regarding the controversy with UEFA.
The controversy centers on the annulment of Julián Álvarez’s penalty in a match against Real Madrid. According to Cerezo, the club supports those seeking explanations, but the Union of Fan Groups has expressed disagreement with these claims.
In their statement, the Union of Fan Groups indicates that the president’s words do not reflect reality, suggesting a possible slip due to erroneous information.
They claim that Atlético de Madrid has not actively supported the initiative to demand accountability from UEFA, seeking to clarify the situation to avoid misunderstandings among the fans.
The Union of Fan Groups recalled that the club had until Monday to respond to the certified mail sent by the Colchoneros collectives, without having received a response so far. Cerezo defended the club’s position, arguing that once a match is over, the result is unchangeable.
He added that Atlético raised its protest to UEFA, receiving an unsatisfactory response. Although they do not oppose legal action, the club believes that filing a lawsuit would be futile. Fans are hoping for a prompt resolution that benefits the interests of the club and strengthens unity between the board and the fans.
