VAR failure in Barça - Atlético de Madrid
The semi-final match of the Spanish Women’s Super Cup between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid suffered a VAR failure that did not work until the 70th minute.
The fact angered both teams and prompted a statement from the RFEF indicating that the Technical Committee of Referees ‘will demand from Mediapro all the technical work and tests to ensure that the VAR is fully operational for the second semi-final between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad’.
Mediapro later issued a statement explaining the failure in the video refereeing: ‘A technical problem with the hardware provider in the VAR service in the semi-final match of the Women’s Super Cup between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid has prevented the provision of the VAR service until the 70th minute of the match’. The Barça - Atlético ended with a 3-0 result for the azulgranas and, fortunately, there were no actions in which VAR intervention was necessary, although Barcelona coach, Pere Romeu, indicated that ‘it could have conditioned the match’.
