Casquero, a 'Colchonero' back home

Atlético de Madrid’s training session had a special guest: Javier Casquero, a former player from the rojiblanca youth academy. Formed in Atleti’s youth ranks, Casquero returned to the Metropolitano to relive old times and closely observe Diego Pablo Simeone’s work methodology.

The former Sevilla and Getafe midfielder played for Atlético de Madrid B in the 99-00 season, coming from Toledo. Club circumstances led him to seek new horizons, but his heart has always held a special place for Atleti.

After a distinguished career in Spanish football, including spells at Sevilla, Racing, Getafe, Almería, and Sporting de Gijón, Casquero is now on the sidelines, looking for an opportunity to prove his worth as a coach.

With experience as an assistant coach at Getafe and Recreativo de Huelva, and after his time in the sports management of UD Sanse, Casquero took advantage of the day to immerse himself in Simeone’s philosophy, an undisputed benchmark in the world of football. His visit to the rojiblanco training session is yet another demonstration of the roots and passion generated by Atleti, even in those who, for various reasons, had to find their way away from the club. An emotional reunion that reaffirms the ties between the club and its former players.
