Joan García to Atleti: Strategic Signing or Risk?
Atlético de Madrid has its sights set on Joan García, a young and promising Espanyol goalkeeper, as a possible reinforcement for the Rojiblancos’ goal.
Despite the fact that Jan Oblak, a fundamental pillar of the team, still has a valid contract, the Atleti board is considering securing the future between the posts with the signing of the 23-year-old goalkeeper.
There is even the option of leaving him on loan at Espanyol for another season, thus guaranteeing his development and adaptation to LaLiga. However, García’s possible arrival generates debate.
Miguel Ángel Moyà, former Atlético goalkeeper, has expressed his doubts about the advisability of this move if Oblak remains in the team. Moyà considers that it would be an unwise decision for both Atleti and Joan García himself, given Oblak’s status as an undisputed reference. However, the former goalkeeper sees Joan García as the ideal candidate to replace Oblak in the future: a Spanish goalkeeper, with experience in LaLiga and with characteristics that fit Simeone’s style of play. His potential is undeniable and he is expected to be seen soon in the National Team.
