Atlético Madrid relives its glorious Europa League
Atlético Madrid relived the glorious 2009/10 Europa League season at the ‘X Encounter with Legends: The Resurgence of Hamburg’. Raúl García, Antonio López and Ignacio Camacho shared their experiences of that season at an event organized by the club at the Metropolitano auditorium.
The team, which started with Abel Resino as coach and playing in the Champions League, fell to the Europa League after the arrival of Quique Sánchez Flores. Atlético eliminated Galatasaray, Sporting de Portugal and Valencia in the round of 16, quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, before facing Fulham in the Hamburg final.
The match went to extra time, but Atlético prevailed thanks to a goal from Diego Forlán in the 103rd minute. The victory marked a change in the club’s energy and a sense of belonging that led to Atlético Madrid’s success.
