De Paul: Continuity or New Course at Atlético?
The future of Rodrigo de Paul at Atlético de Madrid is one of the hot topics for the upcoming season. The Argentine midfielder, happy in Madrid and consolidated in Simeone’s scheme, wishes to extend his link with the Rojiblanco club, which ends in 2026.
Approaching 31 years old, De Paul values the possibility of continuing to wear the Atlético shirt and considers that his continuity in the team would give him greater visibility for the 2026 World Cup.
However, the final decision will rest with the sports management, led by Carlos Bucero, who plans to reinforce the midfield with two additions. Names like Baena sound strongly to bolster the Rojiblanco midfield.
The club’s intention is to strengthen the squad in important positions, such as center backs, a left back, two midfielders and a striker in case Correa leaves, plus a goalkeeper if Musso finally leaves.
The management of the Metropolitano must assess whether De Paul’s continuity fits into the new sports project, also considering that this summer would be the last opportunity to obtain economic benefits from his transfer.
Arriving in 2021 from Udinese, De Paul has become an important piece in Simeone’s scheme, adding 179 games, 14 goals and 23 assists. Despite his dedication and commitment, the club believes that he can still give more to the team. Atlético’s priority is to finish the season in the best possible way and prepare for the Club World Cup, with De Paul as one of the pillars of the team.
