Areso Waits for Atleti
Atlético de Madrid has its sights set on Jesús Areso, the talented right-back from Osasuna. Given the possible departure of Nahuel Molina, the Rojiblanco club sees the 25-year-old Navarrese player as an ideal option to reinforce the right flank and compete with Marcos Llorente, who has proven to be versatile, both at full-back and in midfield, under Simeone’s command.
Areso’s great season has not gone unnoticed at the Metropolitano, and the Colchonero board has acted quickly. The player, who had a practically closed agreement with Athletic Club, has halted his decision given Atleti’s interest.
The Biscayan entity was willing to pay his release clause of 12 million euros and offered him an attractive contract, but Atlético’s irruption has changed everything. Areso, a native of Cascante, prefers to wait for the Rojiblanco proposal before making a final decision.
The club is awaiting Molina’s future to definitively launch for the Osasuna player. It is important to remember that Areso, in his youth stage, was signed by Athletic from Osasuna for half a million euros. After a period of four years, he returned to Tajonar, passing through a loan spell at Burgos before settling into the Rojillo first team, where he has become a key piece, playing 35 of the 37 LaLiga matches and contributing three assists.
