The keys to Berta's departure from Atlético
The arrival of Óscar Mayo and Carlos Bucero at Atlético de Madrid has changed the day-to-day at the Metropolitano. Gil Marín has delegated to them and Andrea Berta no longer feels comfortable. Simeone remains untouchable as always.
On January 20 of this year, MARCA advanced two important signings in Atlético’s key. They were not for the green, no, but from the very entity they slid the importance of two acquisitions that arrived to reinforce the structure of the offices.
At the same time, a long-standing desire of Miguel Ángel Gil was fulfilled, to take a step back in the day-to-day. His positions in European bodies and in LaLiga take time away from the managing director when it comes to managing the club.
Hence, the arrival of Óscar Mayo and Carlos Bucero changed the scenario in the red and white offices. The second, in terms of the team, arrived as general manager. A position that encompasses the entire sports area…
including the figure of Andrea Berta who continued (still does) to perform his functions as sports director of the Metropolitano entity. The Italian arrived at the club in 2013, but it was in 2017 when he took over the red and white operations.
But something changed since the aforementioned January 20 of this year. Even before Bucero arrived as general manager, negotiations were held with a football man like Mateu Alemany. No agreement was reached and Berta already showed his disagreement with the creation of a position between his work…
and Gil Marín. Changing, insist those who follow the day-to-day of the entity, from interlocutor (from managing director to new general manager) although without losing his functions.
All this, for a director like Berta, with a high salary after many years of having power and offers from European giants that we will detail later. Hence, the change in the role organization bothered Andrea to the point of not wanting to continue for some time in the entity.
With a contract in force, negotiations would be held (they insist that they have not yet done so) to end as soon as possible a situation that is uncomfortable for both parties. And it is that Andrea Berta does not want to ‘be there’ in Atlético. He does not want, in short, his current situation, considering that the best solution is to negotiate an exit, a settlement, and continue his career in another club once all indications are that his time at the Madrid entity, having already passed the decade in the club, is in its final stretch.
