Cerezo Responds Forcefully to Courtois
Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético de Madrid, did not mince words and responded firmly to the recent statements by Thibaut Courtois. In an unusually critical tone, Cerezo defended the rojiblanco club and did not hesitate to express his disagreement with the Belgian goalkeeper’s words.
During the board lunch prior to the important match against FC Barcelona at the Metropolitano, the colchonero president was blunt in responding to questions about Courtois, who had criticized Atlético de Madrid and its coach after a Champions League match.
Cerezo reminded Courtois of his time at the club and urged him to show gratitude. ‘Courtois should shut up and stay calm. He should be grateful to have been at Atleti. He is a great goalkeeper, but he has to do what he did with us, be a gentleman,’ the president stated.
These statements reflect the fighting spirit and defense of Atlético values that Cerezo has always demonstrated. The president also took the opportunity to express his dissatisfaction with certain recent arbitration decisions. Atlético de Madrid fans undoubtedly applaud their president’s vehemence in defending the club.
