Tribute to Unwavering Loyalty: Fans from the Relegation Season Honored
Atlético de Madrid has paid an emotional tribute to the fans who demonstrated their unwavering loyalty to the club during the difficult 1999-2000 season, marked by relegation to the Second Division.
In a ceremony held at the Metropolitano, President Enrique Cerezo led the presentation of silver badges to over 1,000 season ticket holders who joined Atleti in those adverse times.
The event, full of symbolism and emotion, was attended by player Riquelme, a homegrown talent who was born in that season, and rojiblanco legends such as Manolo Sánchez Delgado, Santi Denia, Álvaro Domínguez, David Villa, and Roberto Solozábal, who also wanted to thank the fans for their eternal loyalty to the club.
Cerezo highlighted the value of these fans who, despite adversity, maintained their commitment to the team. The presentation of badges, which continued in a second day, is a recognition of the unconditional love of these fans, whose support was essential to overcome one of the most difficult moments in the club’s recent history.
