Heated Derby: Incidents Before the Classic at the Metropolitano
The lead-up to the thrilling Champions League match between Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid at the Metropolitano was marred by minor incidents. The arrival of the Rojiblancos players at the stadium triggered a response from the Police Intervention Unit, resulting in the arrest of two fans.
Authorities acted to maintain order and ensure the safety of attendees, prioritizing a festive and sporting atmosphere. In addition, a group of approximately 300 Ultras Sur, Real Madrid supporters, attempted to enter the stadium without the corresponding ticket.
The rapid police intervention prevented their entry and escorted them to the nearest metro station, avoiding further altercations. The National Police deployed a large security device, with more than 550 agents monitoring both inside and outside the Metropolitano.
The main objective was to prevent and detect hate behaviors, using security cameras to identify potential offenders, who could be expelled from the stadium or even arrested.
Despite these isolated incidents, the Atlético fans showed their unconditional support for the team, creating a vibrant and passionate atmosphere in the hours before the Madrid derby. The dedication and commitment of the players on the field were the best example of the fighting spirit that characterizes the club, demonstrating once again why Atlético de Madrid is a formidable rival in any competition.
