The Metropolitano, a stage beyond football
Atlético de Madrid, always looking to the future with ambition, is preparing for a season full of challenges. The hope of lifting the Champions League remains intact in the heart of every ‘colchonero’ (mattress maker).
However, the Metropolitano, a red and white temple, will have a busy schedule beyond football. With an eye on the upcoming season, a particular crossroads arises: the Champions League final and the concerts of a renowned artist.
Although it is still early to know if Simeone’s team will achieve European glory, the possibility of not being able to celebrate a hypothetical title in the Metropolitano is already on the table.
If Atleti manages to make history and lift its first ‘Orejona’ (big ears, nickname for the trophy), the celebration would move to Neptuno, as the stadium will host a musical event.
A situation similar to that experienced in other finals, when scheduled events prevented opening the doors of the stadium to fans who could not travel. On that occasion, an alternative was sought so that fans could follow the match on a giant screen.
It is undeniable that holding these concerts represents a significant economic income for the club. Although reaching the Champions League final is a major challenge, the ‘rojiblanca’ (red and white) fans dream of seeing their team fighting for the title. Undoubtedly, it would be a ‘blessed problem’ to have to choose between music and football, but the ‘colchonera’ passion will always find a way to make itself felt.
