Atlético Madrid Aims for Twentieth Copa del Rey Final
Atlético Madrid qualified for the Copa del Rey semifinals after defeating Getafe 5-0 in the quarterfinals. This is their 33rd semifinal appearance in history, aiming for their twentieth final. Atlético has advanced from the semifinals 19 times and been eliminated on 13 occasions.
Their first semifinal was in the 1924-25 season, and the most recent was last season, where they lost to Athletic. Atlético played their first final in 1925-26 and their last in 2013, defeating Real Madrid at the Bernabéu under Simeone.
Since then, Simeone has led the team to three more semifinals without reaching the final. The semifinal draw will take place on February 12, with matches scheduled for February 26 and April 2. The final, on April 26 at La Cartuja, will coincide with the club’s 122nd anniversary. Atlético, with 10 Copa del Rey titles, aims for a historic milestone in their celebration.
