Atlético Madrid secure historic away win in Prague
Atlético Madrid secured a resounding victory against Sparta Prague in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage. A 0-6 win with goals from Julián Alvarez (2), Correa (2), Marcos Llorente and Griezmann went down in history as the biggest away win for the Rojiblancos in European competition.
This victory allows Diego Simeone’s men to recover a positive goal difference after the heavy defeat suffered in Lisbon against Benfica (4-0) and after falling to Lille at the Metropolitano (1-3).
The Rojiblancos arrived in Prague with a -4 and left with a +2, which puts them in a better position for the final classification. With one round remaining, Atlético are thirteenth with nine points, just one point away from the top-8 and five points above the last team that would be eliminated from the competition. As for the remaining schedule for Atlético, it looks accessible, with home games against Slovan Brastislava and Bayer Leverkusen and a visit to Salzburg.
