A Legend in Red and White! Oblak Makes History

Our Jan Oblak continues to expand his athletic legend! Last Saturday, in the match against Espanyol, our Slovenian goalkeeper reached the impressive figure of 484 official matches with Atlético de Madrid, surpassing the mythical Tomás Reñones and consolidating himself as the third player with the most appearances in the club’s history.

Since his Red and White debut on September 16, 2014, in that exciting match against Olympiacos, Oblak has become a fundamental pillar of our team. Now, he only has two absolute legends ahead of him, Adelardo Rodríguez (553) and Koke Resurrección (672).

But surely Jan will continue to add! In his eleventh season defending our colors, Oblak has played 361 matches in LaLiga, 94 in the Champions League, 18 in the Copa del Rey, 6 in the Europa League, 4 in the Spanish Super Cup and 1 in the European Super Cup.

His record is simply spectacular: a Spanish Super Cup (2014-15), a Europa League (2017-18), a European Super Cup (2018-19) and a League (2020-21). And let’s not forget his five Zamora trophies (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21), equaling legends such as Ramallets and Valdés! In addition, he holds the best average of goals conceded in a single season in the history of LaLiga (0.47% in 2015-16), tied with Liaño. A real wall! Congratulations, Jan, for this new milestone in your brilliant career!
